Leadership Platform

As a Pediatrician, Epidemiologist, and Educator, my vision as a leader is rooted in the belief that leadership is about nurturing and fostering the potential in others. It involves creating an environment (clinical or non-clinical) where learners can thrive and grow, achieving their full capabilities. To me, leadership means establishing a shared common vision or goal, and then meticulously reverse engineering a roadmap that guides us toward achieving excellence in medical education whether at the individual or group level.

I believe fundamental aspects of effective leadership within medical education include delegating and sharing responsibility. I strive to empower trainees, staff, and my colleagues to recognize that shared responsibility not only improves efficiency, but also contributes to a culture of diversity, collaboration, and shared success.

In the ever-changing landscape of medical education, leaders must be innovative, creative, and adept at course correcting as new challenges arise. A visionary leader in medical education should see the future landscape of healthcare and understand where all the pieces fit in. This requires a strategic mindset and ability to adapt educational practices to align with evolving healthcare and public health needs. My approach focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration, team-based decision-making, and a commitment to promoting open and honest communication to address issues head-on.

Leaders in medical education should foster growth and potential, not only in students but also in their colleagues. Keeping the educational environment organized, efficient, and productive is essential for optimal learning outcomes. Boosting morale and providing support are critical components of creating a positive and conducive learning atmosphere. Leaders should also serve as the connectors of people. I aspire to forge new relationships between trainees, healthcare professionals, and educators, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances the educational experience. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are vital in creating meaningful networks and promoting effective interdisciplinary collaboration.

The kind of medical educator I aspire to be is one who leads by example, embodying humanistic values and an open-minded approach. Innovation is at the core of my leadership style, along with a commitment to collaboration and direct yet tactful communication. My goal is to be a leader who not only shapes the present landscape of medical education within Pediatrics, but also contributes to the evolution of healthcare through visionary leadership and a commitment to continuous improvement.
